Every family has their words of wisdom they pass down to the generations below them. Some words of wisdom may be culled from ancestral anecdotes, other may be basic pieces of common sense. For the Pryfogle family, words of wisdom comes in the shape of movie quotes.
From cars, sidewalks, bleachers at sporting events, and backstage at school shows, my father would yell at my sister and I, "Carpe diem! Seize the day! Make your lives extraordinary!" Interestingly enough this quote was originally whispered by Robin Williams in the film Dead Poets Society, but us Pryfogle do not do things quietly. This quote has transformed past the boundaries of the movie, and grown to be a responsibility placed on us each and every day.
Go beyond the norm, and push the limits of what you believe you are capable of. Live each day as it were your last and you will have lived a full life. It is such a simple idea, yet it is so easy to forget. This world we live in moves at such an incredible pace, that at times we feel as if we cannot keep up. But it is not about keeping up. It is about making the most out of the day as you can. It is about doing your own personal best and not judging yourself against others.
So to you all: Carpe Diem! Seize the day! Make your lives extraordinary!
